Overview:

The Finance Relationship & Profitability Officer serves as the primary liaison between Finance/Treasury and the Lines of Business for loan and deposit pipeline management, pricing discipline, relationship profitability, balance sheet forecasting, and pricing execution. The role provides analytical review, challenge, guidance, and follow-up throughout the life cycle of commercial opportunities.

Working with Commercial Banking, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, Credit, Finance, Loan Closing, Operations, Technology, and Data Analytics, the officer helps ensure that production goals align with the bank’s profitability, liquidity, funding, capital, and balance sheet objectives. The position also supports the transition from manual pipeline and payoff reporting to automated Qlik reporting with clear data ownership and reconciliation controls.

What You'll Do:

Loan Pipeline Oversight

  • Perform periodic reviews of loan pipelines across all LOBs.
  • Validate amounts, probability, expected closing dates, and funding timing.
  • Challenge assumptions and identify material changes affecting liquidity, funding, production expectations, or balance sheet plans.
  • Maintain regular dialogue with lenders and production teams regarding pipeline quality.

Loan Pricing and Profitability Optimization

  • Review pricing opportunities submitted for Finance approval.
  • Evaluate transaction and full-relationship economics, including loans, deposits, fees, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, funding costs, credit costs, liquidity, capital, and operating costs.
  • Verify compliance with approved return thresholds and profitability objectives.
  • Develop alternatives that improve profitability while preserving client competitiveness.

Loan Payoff and Runoff Monitoring

  • Maintain regular dialogue with lenders regarding expected loan payoffs.
  • Validate payoff assumptions and improve visibility into future balance sheet runoff.
  • Evaluate whether relationships should be retained or strategically allowed to run off.
  • Escalate significant anticipated runoff events to Treasury and Finance leadership.

Deposit Pipeline and Pricing Review

  • Monitor deposit acquisition pipelines and validate assumptions supporting liquidity and funding forecasts.
  • Review large deposit pricing exceptions and strategic deposit opportunities.
  • Ensure decisions align with funding objectives and full-relationship profitability goals.

Deposit Attrition and Share of Wallet

  • Establish regular reviews of at-risk deposits and partner with LOBs on retention strategies.
  • Assess the profitability of retention efforts.
  • Support follow-up on operating DDA, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, merchant services, FX, derivatives, and other fee opportunities.
  • Improve visibility into expected deposit runoff and liquidity impacts.

Pricing Approval Governance

  • Perform the initial Finance review of pricing exceptions for completeness and business justification.
  • Validate assumptions used in profitability analyses and promote consistency across LOBs.
  • Escalate opportunities outside established profitability expectations or approval authority.

LOB Training and Advisory Support

  • Serve as a subject matter resource for pricing tools and profitability methodologies.
  • Assist bankers in modeling opportunities before formal approval submission.
  • Provide training on pricing concepts, relationship economics, and return expectations.
  • Create a consistent feedback loop between Finance and production teams.

Profitability and Portfolio Analytics

  • Track recurring pricing trends, exceptions, RAROC, spreads, deposit capture, and relationship penetration.
  • Identify opportunities for improved profitability.
  • Produce regular reporting for Finance, Treasury, and ALCO.
  • Help ensure portfolio growth contributes positively to earnings, returns, and funding objectives.

Loan Closing Coordination and Pricing Validation

  • Compare approved pricing requests with final loan documentation and system setup before booking.
  • Validate interest rate structure, spreads, index selection, floors and ceilings, repricing provisions, fees, and prepayment penalties.
  • Resolve discrepancies before closing to reduce operational risk, revenue leakage, and downstream corrections.
  • Serve as liaison among Finance, Loan Operations, Credit, and the LOBs so approved economics are executed as intended.

Reporting Automation and Data Governance

  • Support requirements, design, testing, implementation, and validation of automated pipeline and payoff reporting in Qlik.
  • Establish data definitions, RM ownership, update expectations, reconciliation controls, and issue-resolution processes.
  • Track progress toward retiring manual pipeline and payoff reports.

Qualifications:
  • 2+ years experience in financial analysis, commercial banking, pricing, profitability reporting, FP&A, Treasury, management reporting, loan operations, portfolio management, or a related analytical role.
  • Understanding of commercial banking products; relationship economics; financial statements; balance sheet concepts; FTP, RAROC, expected loss, liquidity cost, capital allocation, and return thresholds.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Exposure to Qlik, Power BI, CRM, pricing, profitability, pipeline, or workflow tools is preferred. Python knowledge desired.
  • Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, communication, organization, collaboration, documentation, and the ability to challenge constructively.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
