Overview:

The Real Estate Appraisal Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Real Estate Appraisal function, ensuring the timely and compliant delivery of appraisal and valuation services in support of the Bank's lending activities. The role supervises appraisal staff, manages vendor relationships, monitors workflow and service levels, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, appraisal independence standards, and Bank policies.

The Real Estate Appraisal Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert and primary escalation point for appraisal-related matters while supporting business partners, maintaining quality standards, and driving operational effectiveness within the appraisal process.

What You'll Do:

Appraisal Operations & Workflow Management

  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Real Estate Appraisal team.
  • Manage appraisal workflow, assignment distribution, capacity planning, and prioritization to ensure service-level commitments are met.
  • Monitor appraisal turnaround times and operational metrics and implement process improvements as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex appraisal issues and valuation disputes.
  • Ensure the timely ordering, review, delivery, and tracking of appraisals and valuation products.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain compliance with Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines, FIRREA, USPAP, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to appraisal independence requirements and related Bank policies.
  • Monitor quality control procedures and appraisal review processes.
  • Identify and escalate appraisal-related risks, exceptions, and policy concerns.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance reviews.

Vendor Management

  • Oversee relationships with Appraisal Management Companies (AMCs), appraisal firms, and other valuation providers.
  • Monitor vendor performance, service levels, quality standards, and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Assist with vendor evaluations, onboarding, and periodic performance reviews.
  • Support negotiation and administration of vendor agreements in partnership with leadership.

Business Partner Support

  • Partner with Lending, Credit Administration, Residential, Commercial, Wealth, and Special Assets teams regarding appraisal requirements and valuation issues.
  • Provide guidance and education on appraisal regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the resolution of valuation-related issues impacting transactions and portfolio management activities.

Leadership & People Management

  • Supervise and develop appraisal staff through coaching, training, performance management, and career development activities.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and risk-aware culture.
  • Establish team goals and monitor individual and team performance expectations.
  • Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Prepare and analyze operational reports, productivity metrics, service-level reporting, and management dashboards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, controls, and client experience.
  • Participate in departmental projects and strategic initiatives as assigned
  • Support implementation of technology enhancements and process automation efforts.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5-7 years of real estate appraisal, valuation, appraisal review, or appraisal operations experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory, team lead, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting residential and commercial real estate lending environments preferred.
  • Experience working within a regulated financial institution preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of appraisal principles, valuation methodologies, and appraisal regulations.
  • Understanding of Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines, FIRREA, and USPAP requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex appraisal reports and valuation analyses.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in appraisal management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting tools.

Licenses/Certifications

  • State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser.
  • Appraisal Institute designations (MAI, SRA).

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, or related field required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
