Overview:

The Paralegal – Asset Recovery performs routine and structured legal support tasks to assist the Bank's Asset Recovery team in managing distressed loans and assets. Primary duties include reviewing and organizing loan documents, settlement statements, and materials related to litigation, real estate transactions, and bankruptcy cases from a creditor's perspective. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing standard legal forms under supervision, conducting document-based research, and coordinating with internal departments to support case processing. Work is performed by following established procedures and under the direction of attorneys or other designated staff. This position requires accuracy, organization, and the ability to manage multiple assignments within defined timelines.

Principal Duties & Responsibilites:

  • Review closing documents to confirm loan files are complete and properly organized.

  • Perform due diligence tasks such as conducting corporate entity searches, reviewing title reports, and checking lien documentation.

  • Provide case support to workout officers on matters involving litigation or bankruptcy by preparing and organizing related documentation.

  • Maintain and update the litigation tracking log to support timely follow-up and documentation compliance.

  • Review and organize real estate transaction documents, including purchase agreements, leases, easements, mortgages, deeds, and assignments.

  • Coordinate the scheduling and receipt of appraisals and environmental report updates.

  • Assist with loan closings by reviewing settlement statements and verifying documentation against lending and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct document-based research related to banking, lending, and real estate topics as directed.

  • Assist in compiling responses to subpoenas, discovery requests, and regulatory examinations.

  • Maintain case files, contract databases, and document management systems in accordance with established procedures.

  • Draft standard correspondence, resolutions, and legal documents under the supervision of an attorney or designated staff.

  • Work is performed by following established procedures and under the direction of attorneys or other designated staff, with tasks assigned and reviewed for accuracy and completeness.


Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of experience performing paralegal or legal assistant duties in banking/lending, real estate, or litigation environments (law firm or in-house preferred).
  • Paralegal Certification (accredited) required. 
  • Experience supporting legal teams with document review, case tracking, and regulatory filings.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, document types, and procedures related to commercial lending, real estate transactions, and bankruptcy.

  • Familiarity with commercial lending practices, real estate closing procedures, UCC filings, title insurance, and lien priority.

  • Ability to accurately review, organize, and maintain legal and financial documents.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal document management systems.

  • Ability to manage multiple assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain organized records under supervision.

  • Skill in following detailed instructions and established procedures consistently.

  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for preparing standard correspondence and interacting with internal teams.


Education:
  • Associate's Degree or completion of an accredited paralegal studies program required. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
